Our history dates back to 1965 when Carl W. Cannon, an enthusiastic and self reliant entrepreneur moved to Jasper, Alabama and established Carl Cannon Chevrolet. Just three short years after starting the business he started construction of our current dealership on Hwy 78 in Jasper. At that time there was no business located on Hwy 78 and Mr. Cannon was told by many friends and business associates that he would not survive out there for more than 6 months and that he must be crazy for moving his business to the deserted bypass. Mr. Cannon had the vision and the confidence to make the move anyway and today Carl Cannon Chevrolet sits in the economic center of Walker County and serves all of central Alabama.
Carl Cannon's son Jim Cannon took over as Dealer in 1986. Jim had worked for his father in the car business his entire life and has used that experience to continue what his father had started. Jim has often said the secret to success was to "always take care of customers at all costs and always treat every employee just as well as you treat every customer." This philosophy is at the heart of every department in the dealership. From our service advisors to our sales associates, from our parts guys to our cashier, the employees of Carl Cannon work hard to provide customers with the best dealership experience possible. The Cannon philosophy combined with an average tenure of 18+ years has helped Carl Cannon's customer service rating to consistently be among the highest in the Southeast United States and was even ranked #1 for 2 consecutive years.
In 2007, Carl Cannon Chevrolet Cadillac merged with Franklin Motor Company to become Carl Cannon Chevrolet Cadillac Buick Pontiac GMC, Inc. and is now the largest traditional full line GM Dealership in the state of Alabama and consistently sells more Chevrolets than any Birmingham Metro Dealer.
Ensuring that Carl Cannon will remain a family business dedicated to the philosophy of its founder, Abe Cannon took over for his father as Dealer in 2008. Abe has grown up in the car business working his way from detail department to the sales floor and on to management. Abe believes in exceeding customer expectations and he has the veteran workforce behind him to make it happen.
In order to better serve both customers and employees, Carl Cannon is doing just as it did back in 1968 by moving the Dealership to what it believes will be the future economic center of Walker county. Carl Cannon will be the first major business in the area to move its operations to the new I-22 corridor and is set to open Thanksgiving of 2008. The new location will continue to serve all of our local patrons and will make for an even shorter trip for our many customers traveling from both Jefferson and Marion counties. The new state of the art 60,000 square foot facility will be equipped with all of the latest technology and was designed for maximum customer comfort. Some of the features include waiting area"s with flat screen T.V's and refreshment centers, quiet area's with wireless access, leather lazy boy seating throughout, an automated car wash and a new quick lube that allows customers to receive Genuine Goodwrench Service without ever leaving the comfort of their own car.
