All incentives used in getting to that price are shown on our site with any required qualifications clearly shown. So how does that separate us from our competition?
Not only do they not have our reputation, our tenured staff or the best service department in the business, but many are using a ridiculous online pricing strategy promoting prices that they have no intention of honoring. Often, their prices are thousands less than our “Cannon Can Price” and are accompanied by long legal disclaimers that essentially say “Nobody qualifies for this price, but if they did, we would honor it!” Typically they require that you have a trade they can undervalue and that you have “private offers” from GM that the vast majority of customers don’t have. Their philosophy seems to be “Get the customer here at all cost! Once we get them in our store we can handle their objections with shell games and hard sell tactic and hopefully still sell them a car!” Unfortunately for the rest of us dealers, this strategy has worked with many customers and puts us in a real catch 22: Do we stoop to their level to drive traffic or do we stick to our philosophy of doing business “the right way”?
The answer is easy, we simply don’t believe that’s any way to treat a customer and as a matter of fact, Mr. Cannon wouldn’t let us do it that way even if we wanted to. He has spent 55 years building his business on relationships based on trust and we are not about to destroy those relationships with deceptive marketing.
We feel confident that if you see online prices that are significantly lower than ours and then read the “offer disclosures” that accompany them you will quickly see just how deceptive their pricing strategies are. The question I would have you ask, is “Do I really want to do business with someone who lied to me just to get me in the door? And do I trust that someone who has already lied to me will stand behind their product after the sale?”
