Whether you're interested in getting the keys to a 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 or 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 near Birmingham, you've likely heard of the GM truck engine changes. The 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 was renowned as a fan-favorite among AL Chevy and GMC fans, and for good reason; its potent performance and impressive capability were hard to top. Chevy and GMC outdid themselves for the 2023 model year, however, as the 2.7-liter turbo and 3.0-liter Duramax® Turbo-Diesel engine each received performance upgrades this model year.
The second-generation 3.0-liter Duramax® is upgraded with new steel pistons with a revised combustion bowl, retuned turbo compressor, new fuel injectors and temperature control features to enhance performance. This results in a greater torque figure of 495 pound-feet, which handily beats the 383 pound-feet of torque offered by the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8. The 2.7-liter 4-cylinder also received a torque upgrade, going from 420 pound-feet in 2022 to 430 pound-feet in 2023. Check out our full GM engine comparison below:
